What it's about

A correct drawing can still be impossible to produce at an acceptable cost. Industrialisation is the work of making what has been designed feasible: choosing the process, tooling and sequence that give the right part at the right price.

We know steelwork processes from the inside — laser cutting, bending, welding, painting — because we also teach them in our courses. This helps us see in advance where scrap comes from.

Process routingsSequence of operations, machines, set-ups and times, with in-process checks at the right points.
Process selectionComparison of the alternatives — laser, punching, casting, machining from solid, additive — on cost and volumes.
IndustrialisationReviewing the geometry for the chosen process: radii, thicknesses, machining allowances, locating datums.
Nesting and offcutsOptimising the layout on standard sheet sizes to reduce material scrap.
Rapid prototypingFunctional prototypes to check envelopes, grips and assemblies before tooling up for production.
Design for additive manufacturingParts rethought for 3D printing: orientation, supports, lattice lightening, consolidation of several parts into one.
Inspection plansWhat is measured, with which instrument, how often and with which acceptance criteria.

How we work

  1. FeasibilityCan the part be made with the available processes? Where are the critical points and what do they cost.
  2. Process selectionQuantitative comparison of the alternatives on cost, time, tooling and expected volumes.
  3. Tooling and routingDefining fixtures, datums and the operating sequence, with the inspections.
  4. Start-up and fine-tuningFirst batch followed on the shop floor, parameter correction and consolidation of the routing.

Do you have your own workshop?

No, and this leaves us independent in the choice of supplier. We work with your workshop or your network of subcontractors, and we can help you compare quotes on technical grounds.

Can you assess a part we already produce?

Yes, it's one of the most useful jobs: reviewing an existing part with an eye on cost often frees up margin without touching its function.

Do you also do CNC programming?

Programming stays with the department or the subcontractor. We define the routing, set-ups and inspections, and supply the models in the format the CAM needs.

How we work together

This service is activated with one of the three collaboration options: a closed per-project job, a monthly bank of hours as an external technical office, or a one-off job with a narrow scope. The option is chosen together at the offer stage, depending on how well defined the work is.
